The Pressure Washing Works

Nobody is going to automate the person who turns up and cleans a filthy driveway in two hours. Pressure washing is hands-on, local and visible — about as AI-proof as work gets — and now one person can run the whole business with AI doing the quoting, the admin and the before-and-after marketing.

AI-proof by design

An income AI can't take.

AI can write an essay; it cannot soft-wash a roof or seal a block-paved drive in the cold. The work is physical, local and judgement-based, and the money is durable — one-off cleans, high-margin sealing, and recurring commercial contracts that the same operator wins on trust and finish. That makes it resilient in a way a desk job built on tasks software now does is not. What AI changes is the back office: you no longer need staff or evenings of admin to quote, schedule and market a serious round.

The headline feature

Run it with AI behind the scenes.

Every manual ships with an Excel toolkit and a 95-prompt AI library mapped to the real jobs of pressure washing — so one person can run a serious operation without staff or evenings of admin.

quoting

Quote on site in seconds

Paste a surface, a few measurements and the access notes; the prompt library drafts a priced, branded proposal in your voice using the per-job and per-m² pricing from the toolkit — driveway, patio, render, roof or seal.

marketing

Before-and-after marketing, handled

The killer marketing for this trade is the before-and-after. The prompt library writes the Facebook caption, the Google Business post and the reel script around your photos — ready to use the same evening.

comms

Customer messages, drafted

Booking confirmations, 'we're coming tomorrow' texts, deposit requests, polite payment chasers and review requests — drafted from a prompt, sent in seconds.

ops

A seasonal calendar that plans itself

The Excel job database and route planner turn enquiries into an efficient run, and the prompts help you book softwash and commercial work into the quiet winter months so the income stops swinging.

Start before you register

Your first £500 before you fill in a single form.

You do not need a limited company, a website, or a marketing budget to earn your first £500. With an £800–£2,000 starter kit — petrol washer, rotary surface cleaner, hoses, lances and a basic softwash sprayer — and a weekend cleaning the most obviously dirty driveways on your own street, the manual walks you from your first 'yes' to a booked diary. You register with HMRC once the money is coming in, not before.

Honest questions

Answers, in plain English.

How do I start a pressure washing business in the UK?

Buy a starter kit — a petrol pressure washer, a rotary surface cleaner, hoses, lances and a basic softwash sprayer, for £800–£2,000 — and start by cleaning the most obviously dirty driveways and patios near you. A typical driveway clean is £100–£300, so you can earn your first money before you register anything; you register as a sole trader with HMRC once income is coming in. The Pressure Washing Works gives you the kit list, the pricing, the customer-finding plan and the waste-water and COSHH rules you must follow.

Is pressure washing not just a seasonal job?

There is a strong spring-to-autumn peak, roughly March to October, and deep winter is quiet because frost halts the work. Left there, the income swings hard. The fix is to fill winter with softwash render and roof work, which is less frost-sensitive, plus recurring commercial contracts and sealing booked ahead. The manual shows you exactly how to flatten the seasonality so the business pays all year.

How much can a pressure washing business earn in the UK?

A part-time operator earns roughly £10,000–£20,000 a year. A full-time solo operator who cleans and seals typically earns £35,000–£65,000 a year at a 60–75% margin. A small operator with two to four vans and staff turns over £150,000–£400,000, with an owner take-home of £60,000–£140,000.

Do I need to learn softwashing and sealing?

They are where the higher margin is, so the manual teaches both. Softwashing — low-pressure and sodium-hypochlorite-based — opens up render and roof work that pressure would damage, and it keeps you earning through the colder months. Sealing and resanding after a clean can add hundreds of pounds to a single job. The manual covers the kit, the COSHH-safe chemistry and the upsell maths.

What are the rules on waste water and chemicals?

Dirty wash-water and softwash chemicals must not enter surface-water or storm drains untreated — that is an Environment Agency Guidance for Pollution Prevention requirement, not a nicety. You control runoff, divert or contain it to a foul drain with permission, and use vacuum recovery on commercial sites. Softwash chemicals are COSHH-controlled, so the manual covers dilution, storage, PPE and protecting plants and pets. Handling this well is both a legal must and a professionalism signal that wins commercial work.

Do I need AI or technical skills to use this?

No. The trade is run with a washer, a surface cleaner and a sprayer. The AI prompt library simply lets you copy a prompt into ChatGPT or Claude to draft a quote, a customer message or a before-and-after post in seconds — it compresses the admin, it does not replace the work.
