Why we exist

A small publisher, for the trades.

The Works Co. exists because the small physical trades — window cleaning, gutter cleaning, valeting, dog walking — have been badly served by the business-education industry for twenty years.

The franchise model wants £20,000 for a brand the operator doesn't need. The coaching membership wants £200 a month forever to teach lessons the operator could learn from a book. The course platform wants £997 for the same content, broken into nineteen videos, delivered with the cadence of a marketing funnel.

Each manual in our catalogue replaces the cohort, the call, the upsell, and the membership. One product. One price. The complete book on how to start, run, and grow each business — written by people who have actually done the work, with the toolkits and prompts the operator will actually use.

What this looks like in practice

Each manual is twelve to twenty weeks of research and writing from senior people in a publishing house. We sit in working operators' vans. We read the spreadsheets. We sit on the phones. We write the manual the way we wish we'd been given it on day one.

One hundred and fifty to one hundred and ninety pages of plain prose. A working toolkit with spreadsheets, prompts, and templates the operator actually uses — already filled with worked examples. Free updates for life. A refund without friction.

Email us. We'll refund the same day. You keep the materials. We trust the offer to be the filter — it is the only filter that matters.

What this isn't

The Works Co. is not a coaching business. Not a course platform. Not a community we charge to access. Not a SaaS. Not a personal brand. Not a podcast. There is one product per trade. The product is the whole offer.

The discipline of a small publisher of operating manuals is the entire moat. Many businesses adjacent to this one will offer cheaper-looking deals at the front end, paid for with longer commitments and emotional friction at the back. We do not.

The catalogue

The Window Cleaning Works is the first manual, available now. Nine more are in research — gutter cleaning, mobile car valeting, pressure washing, dog walking, the virtual assistant, the Etsy print-on-demand seller, the bookkeeping-for-trades operator, the solo consultant, the eBay reseller. The catalogue is designed to grow to fifty manuals over ten years.

If a trade is missing that you would like to see, write to us at hello@theworksco.co.uk. We read every message. The catalogue grows in the order our buyers ask for.

The manual was the asset all along.
